Swing Band
In de jaren ‘40 en ’50 was de jump & jive muziek of rhythm & blues zoals het genre ook wel wordt aangeduid, de populaire muziek bij uitstek van ‘zwart’ Amerika. Jazzorkesten in grote of kleine bezetting zoals van o.a. Louis Jordan, Earl Bostic en Lionel Hampton stonden bekend om hun energieke en opzwepende dansmuziek waarbij het moeilijk was om stil te blijven zitten. De van oorsprong uit Tilburg afkomstige Two Tones Swing Band houdt deze traditie levend. Met deze band waant de luisteraar zich het ene moment in een uitgelaten vijftiger jaren ‘Dance Hall’, dan weer in een kleine jazzclub, waarin de sfeer intiem en zwoel is. Bij al hun optredens staat bij The Two Tones voorop het persoonlijke plezier dat zij aan het muziek maken beleven, niet in het minst
‘When they’ve got the blues’.
In post-war America of the 40’s and early 50’s the Rhythm & Blues music also referred to as Jump & Jive music became very popular mainly among the black population. Larger orchestras like the Lionel Hampton band and smaller groups like Louis Jordan & The Tympany Five, Earl Bostic and many, many others topped the jukebox charts non-stop and were famous for their energetic and exiting dance music that made it hard for anyone to sit still and not instantly hit the dance floor. The Dutch swing jazz band The Two Tones Swing Band keeps this tradition alive. At one moment you can imagine yourself being in an exuberant fifties dance hall and the next moment you are taken into the ambiance of a small intimate jazz club. You are also treated to beautiful quiet and sensitive ballads and even tropical South American standards are on their list. All this will be served on a fairly low sound level so one will still be able to have a friendly chat for example at receptions and dinners. Above all The Two Tones like to put the emphasis on their personal pleasure and the satisfaction they get from making music. In particular ‘When they’ve got the blues’.
